Project: Clay

Keeping the memories alive of Cornish Clay Traffic

This project is the collaboration between ourselves and the Bodmin Railway. We successfully raised funds to preserve 8 CDA wagons from the scrap man in 2023.

The CDA wagon is an MGR-derivative hopper wagon ordered by British Rail, to move china clay in South West England to replace the ageing vacuum-braked "Clayhood" wagons (UCV and OOV) as these wagons were built in the 1950s and could only carry a payload of 13 tonnes.

The wagons were used for 35 years being introduced in 1988, and withdrawn from use in 2023. Please see "Pit to Port Preservation" facebook page for updates!
